Electrical Safety Tips
Here are some tips to help keep your home safe from electrical hazards
Don't overload outlets. Try to avoid using multiplug adapters and extension cords
Never use a frayed or damaged cord. Make sure that if you do use extension cords, they are properly rated for the purpose. Lamp cord or zip cord extension cords are insufficient for a heating appliance.
Plug heat generating appliances directly into an outlet, not into a power strip or extension cord.
Don't put electrical cords underneath rugs or pinched behind furniture
Charge laptops and phones only on hard surfaces, not on beds or sofas. The Lithium ion batteries, especially aftermarket batteries can dangerously overheat, causing a fire. Make sure any of these batteries are UL- or FM-listed.
Have a licensed electrician review your home’s electrical system every ten years. Small upgrades and safety checks can prevent larger problems.
Consider installing tamper resistant (TR) outlets in homes with small children.
