LATE FEES FOR DOGS ARE IN EFFECT

Dog licenses expire on December 31st every year, with a grace period through February 28th. Licenses that have not been renewed by March 1st are subject to late fees.Regular Licensing Fees:Neutered/ Spayed: $20, Unaltered: $25Licensing Fees with March Late Fees:Neutered/ Spayed: $25, Unaltered: $30You can renew in-person, by mail, online, or by email at dogs@chelmsfordma.gov. Proof of current rabies vaccination required for licensing. Applications and more information can be found here.If your dog has passed away or moved out of Chelmsford in the past year, please let us know at dogs@chelmsfordma.gov so they can be removed from the registration system.PLEASE NOTE: If you intend to renew by mail, your check and application must be RECEIVED by the Town Clerk's Office prior to the implementation of the next round of late fees to receive the lower fee rate.

Medical Sharps Drop Off Days

The Chelmsford Health Department is hosting Medical Sharps Waste Drop‑Off Days throughout 2026 to provide residents with a safe, legal, and responsible way to dispose of used medical sharps. Throwing sharps in household trash is both dangerous and prohibited, as it can result in accidental needle sticks and poses a risk to sanitation workers. By participating in these quarterly drop‑off events, residents help maintain a healthier and safer community.
Drop‑Off Dates (Thursdays Only):
March 12, 2026
June 11, 2026
September 10, 2026
December 10, 2026
Hours:Sharps are accepted 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM on the above dates only.
Location:Chelmsford Health Department50 Billerica Road
What’s Included:Residents may drop off:
Needles
Syringes
Lancets
Auto injectors
Injection pens
Infusion sets
Connection needles/sets
Important Preparation Instructions:To ensure safe handling, all sharps must be contained—no loose needles are accepted.Approved containers include:
Rigid plastic containers with a secure lid (laundry detergent bottles, bleach bottles, plastic coffee containers)
Commercial sharps containers
Containers must:
Be sealed with tape
Be at least ¾ full
Be clearly closed and not leaking
Additional Notes:
Registration is no longer required.

Free Textile Recycling and Paper Shredding Event

Join the Chelmsford Health Department and Senior Center for a FREE Textile Recycling & Paper Shredding Event on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Chelmsford Senior Center, 75 Groton Rd., North Chelmsford, MA, where community members can conveniently drive through to drop off unwanted textiles and securely dispose of sensitive documents. This event accepts all types of clean, dry, and odorless textiles in any condition—including clothing, shoes, accessories, bedding, curtains, luggage, and stuffed animals—with usable items being repurposed and unusable items recycled. On‑site paper shredding will also be available for personal documents such as bank and credit card statements, medical and insurance records, utility bills, pay stubs, old tax returns, expired IDs, and other sensitive papers, with staples, paper clips, and binder clips allowed. Shredding is offered on a first‑come, first‑served basis until the truck is full, and there is no residency requirement, making the event open to all. For questions, please call 978‑250‑5241.

Road Closures - Gorham & Westford St

ROAD CLOSURE ALERT – PLAN AHEAD!
As part of the Chelmsford-Lowell Bridge Bundle Replacement Project, new road closures and detours are scheduled:
Gorham Street will close beginning Tuesday, June 24
Westford Street will close beginning Thursday, June 26
Both bridges will be closed to vehicles but remain open to pedestrians and bicycles
Work will take place:
• Daytime: 6 AM–6 PM
• Night (as needed): 8 PM–6 AM
Detours will be clearly marked — expect delays and plan alternate routes.

NOTICE OF CYCLICAL PROPERTY INSPECTIONS

The Assessor’s Office will conduct cyclical property inspections as required by Massachusetts law. Each property must be inspected at least once every ten years to ensure assessments remain accurate and fair.
Inspectors will: • Measure the exterior of your property • Attempt an interior inspection (takes about 10–15 minutes)
Inspectors carry official ID and drive marked vehicles. If you are not home, a door tag will be left with instructions to schedule an appointment.
