Medical Sharps Drop Off Days
The Chelmsford Health Department is hosting Medical Sharps Waste Drop‑Off Days throughout 2026 to provide residents with a safe, legal, and responsible way to dispose of used medical sharps. Throwing sharps in household trash is both dangerous and prohibited, as it can result in accidental needle sticks and poses a risk to sanitation workers. By participating in these quarterly drop‑off events, residents help maintain a healthier and safer community.
Drop‑Off Dates (Thursdays Only):
- March 12, 2026
- June 11, 2026
- September 10, 2026
- December 10, 2026
Hours:Sharps are accepted 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM on the above dates only.
Location:Chelmsford Health Department50 Billerica Road
What’s Included:Residents may drop off:
- Needles
- Syringes
- Lancets
- Auto injectors
- Injection pens
- Infusion sets
- Connection needles/sets
Important Preparation Instructions:To ensure safe handling, all sharps must be contained—no loose needles are accepted.Approved containers include:
- Rigid plastic containers with a secure lid (laundry detergent bottles, bleach bottles, plastic coffee containers)
- Commercial sharps containers
Containers must:
- Be sealed with tape
- Be at least ¾ full
- Be clearly closed and not leaking
Additional Notes:
- Registration is no longer required.
- Chelmsford residents only.
