Accounting

The Accounting Department handles financial record-keeping, processes bills and payroll, provides financial reports, and ensures compliance with accounting principles and laws.

Department of Public Works

The Department of Public Works (DPW) maintains and improves the Town’s infrastructure to provide a high quality, clean, and safe environment. The DPW has broad responsibilities including: maintenance and repair of the Town’s roads, sidewalks, public buildings, streetlights, parks and playgrounds; maintenance and repair of the Town’s sewer and stormwater systems; management of collection and disposal of residential and public building solid waste and recycling; maintenance and planning of the Town’s public shade trees; snow and ice operations and responding to other emergencies; festival and event support; and collaborating and supporting other Town Departments, boards, and committees for other Town opportunities and needs.

Emergency Management

The Emergency Management Director, appointed by the Town Manager, coordinates state resources to address and manage disasters.

Fire Department

The Chelmsford Fire Department safeguards lives and property through emergency response, fire prevention, and public safety education. Its highly trained firefighters deliver crucial services, including firefighting, emergency medical care, and hazardous material management. The department also emphasizes fire safety education and community outreach to keep Chelmsford safe.

Health Department

The Chelmsford Health Department is committed to fostering a healthy and safe environment for all our residents. Our key services are Environmental Health, Preventive Health Services, Community Health Education, Mental Health Services, and Emergency Preparedness.

School Department

Tax Collector / Treasurer

The Treasurer’s Office receives, manages, disburses, and safeguards all public funds and investments, while the Collector’s Office handles the collection of all assessed taxes such as real estate, personal property, motor vehicle excise, sewer and stormwater utility bills, and issues Municipal Lien Certificates.

The Town Clerk's office plays a vital role in ensuring transparent governance, managing public records, and overseeing local elections. Responsibilities include voter registration, conducting elections, issuing vital records, licensing, and maintaining public meeting documents.
