26F, 26F 1/2 Inspections in Mobile Homes
Due to an opinion issued by the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Legal Counsel, the Chelmsford Fire Department can not issue compliance certificates for smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors under MGL Ch. 148, Secs. 26F & 26F ½ for mobile homes or manufactured housing. This opinion does not apply to modular homes.
Mobile homes and manufactured housing are covered under federal HUD (Housing and Urban Development) standards, and as such, the Chelmsford Fire Department does not have jurisdiction to inspect these homes or issue compliance certificates under Massachusetts law.
