EAST CHELMSFORD VETERANS MONUMENT 

Carlisle Street, East Chelmsford MA 

Rededication Memorial Day May 25, 1998 

Initially Dedicated on November 11, 1943 

 East Chelmsford Veterans Monument 

 

 

The East Chelmsford Monument, which  0consists of a bronze plaque on a 97 inch tall granite stone, was designed as an Honor Roll for those who served in World War II and the Korean Campaign, as stated at the top of the granite.  

 

TO THOSE WHO ANSWERED THE CHALLENGE 

AGAINST OUR FREEDOM 

TO LIVE IN PEACE 

 

The metal plaque on the center of the granite monument states: 

 

EAST CHELMSFORD  

HONOR ROLL 

WORLD WAR II – KOREAN CAMPAIGN 

 

Directly below those words five individuals who lost their lives are honored: 
IN SOLEMN TRIBUTE 
WE PLACE TOGETHER THE NAMES OF THOSE  
WHO HAVE PAID THE GREATEST PRICE OF ALL 

THAT OF LIFE ITSELF

Originally dedicated in November of 1943, the granite plaque listed 139 men’s names in three columns under which a section was included for WOMEN WHO SERVED, which listed five names. In preparation for the rededication in May 1998, an additional male name was added to the plaque, Edward B. Williams, who served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
