Election Update from the Chelmsford Town Clerk’s Office
Voting By Mail
Ballots for the September 3rd State Primary have started mailing. Have you received your ballot yet?
Over the past 5 days, we mailed over 5,700 ballots to all registered voters who applied to vote by mail by July 15th. If your application was received after July 15th, your ballot will be mailed in the coming days.
Ballots are only mailed to registered voters who submit a signed request in writing or apply online via the SOC’s website. You can request a mail-in ballot as early as January 1st each year, so you may have already done this.
You can track your ballot here.
If you haven’t requested one yet, your application must be received in our office by 5:00 PM, August 26th. We recommend applying as early as possible to avoid postal delays.
Not registered to vote yet? The deadline to register to vote in the September 3rd Primary is 5:00 PM, August 24th for in-person and mailed registrations and 11:59 PM, August 24th for online registrations.
Want to vote in person?
Early Voting will be available Saturday August 24th-Friday, August 30th in the Town Offices Gymnasium. Polls open on Election Day 7 AM- 8 PM.
Reminders for Primary Elections:
If you are registered in a party (Democrat, Libertarian, or Republican), you are only eligible to vote that party’s ballot. If you are registered as Unenrolled, commonly referred to as "Independent", you must tell us on your application which party’s ballot you want mailed to you. (There is no Independent ballot!)
As always, if you have any questions regarding the elections process, please contact your local election officials in the Chelmsford Town Clerk’s office at 978-250-5205.
Happy Voting!
