Food Truck Regulations

Food trucks have become a popular experience over the last few years, and Chelmsford is no exception to this trend. The Chelmsford Fire Department enforces the regulations of the Massachusetts Comprehensive Fire Code (527 CMR 1.00 Ch. 50) and all sections relevant to food truck operations within the code.

  • Current MFV (Mobile Food Vendor) permit or application with the Chelmsford Health Department.
  • Carbon monoxide detector installed within the truck. This can be battery powered, plug in, or integrated with the gas valve.
  • Propane leak detection installed
  • Exhaust hoods free of deposits of grease laden vapors and a current inspection sticker
  • Suppression system inspected within the last six months
  • Propane must be securely mounted or within a rear/underbelly cabinet with weather protection.
  • Fire extinguishers must have a current tag. At a minimum, a multipurpose Class ABC extinguisher is required. Food trucks with equipment that produces grease laden vapors (deep fat fryer, griddle, grill) are required to also carry a Class K Extinguisher.
  • $50 PERMIT AND INSPECTION CHARGE.

  • CFD Permit will expire concurrently with Health Department MFV permit.
